Deborah L. Geering-Fend, O.D.
Dr. Geering-Fend was born in Dayton, OH. She spent part of her childhood there, as well as in Kansas and Iowa. After graduating from high school, she worked as an optician for about ten years. In 1985 she moved to Southern California to continue her education. She received a Bachelor of Visual Science in 1993 and in 1995 received her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. From 1995 to 2007 Dr. Geering-Fend practiced as an optometrist for an ophthalmology practice and a private optometry office, both in Torrance. In June 2007 she opened her own optometry office in Torrance, CA. The office became Coastal Vision Center, A Professional Optometry Corporation in 2013. In 2007 she also purchased a part-time practice as a visiting optometrist in the remote town of Petersburg, Alaska. She continues to provide needed eye care for the Alaska Natives as well as town residents.
Dr. Geering-Fend served as the president of the South Bay Optometric Society from 2008 to 2010 and as a board member from 2002 to 2019. She is an active member of the South Bay Lions Club. She and her husband have one son. She enjoys walking at the beach, bicycling, camping, hiking mountains, skiing, and traveling. |
Sheryl A. Bruce, O.D.
Dr. Bruce grew up in a small, farm country town in Illinois. She fell in love with Southern California and moved here in 1986.
She attended CSU Long Beach and received a B.A. in Psychology in 1990. Her interest in optometry began while working in a private optometry practice in Torrance. She attended Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton and received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997. Dr. Bruce has pursued her career in optometry in multiple private practices in the South Bay. As a member of the South Bay Optometric Society, she met Dr. Geering-Fend. In 2013, they created a partnership to build Coastal Vision Center, Inc. In her spare time, Dr. Bruce likes to spend time with her husband and their two sons, Noah and Ryan. They like to travel and attend sporting events. Especially, watching their sons play soccer and hockey. |
Blanca, Optician
Blanca was born in Torrance, California into a bilingual (English/Spanish) family. She has worked in the optical field in the South Bay since 1999. She has been a certified optician by the American Board of Opticians since 2003. She maintains her certification with continuing education courses. In addition she took Computer Information System courses at DeVry University.
Her experience ranges from pre-testing to assisting with eye wear, including the fabrication and dispensing of glasses, as well as collecting tissue for genetic testing for patients at risk for Macular Degeneration. Having worked with a Fortune 500 company and a chain of small optical businesses, she has increased her appreciation for the specialized care that a patient can benefit from in a private practice. |
She enjoys volunteering for various vision screenings including the South Bay Lions Club.

Courtney, Optician
Courtney is a certified ABO(American Board of Opticianry) and NCLE (Nation Contact Lens Examiners Association) technician. She has spent fifteen years in the service industry and has honed a great set of communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
She is always ready to greet you with a smile and is eager to help patients achieve phenomenal vision goals. |
